Texas Truckworks is driven by a long history of 4×4 trucks and Jeeps. Starting back in 1977 with a K5 Chevrolet Blazer with a Burbank suspension lift kit and 35 inch tires. Back in the late 70’s 4×4 trucks were just getting very popular and having a truck that was bigger was what we did. The K5 Blazer grew from 33 inch tires to 38 inch Super Swampers to 44 inch Swampers, to 48 inch Firestone Terra Tires to 66 inch Goodyear Terra Tires. And with each tire getting bigger the K5 blazer would get bigger axles from a ten bolt Corporate axle to, Dana 60’s to Rockwell 2 1/2 ton axle, the to 5 ton Rockwell axles and the on to F106 center sections mounted to Rockwell planetary axles! Tires and axles were not the only part of the K5 Blazer that was transforming. The engine went from a 350 small block to eventually a 1500 horse power fuel injected alcohol blown motor. Trannies and Transfer cases were not forgotten either, times were always changing, bigger better, stronger and oh yeah lots more money!
We saw the sport go from a vehicle that buddies would work on and change parts to crush cars, to a tube chassis Top Alcohol vehicle that was more like a funny car than a K5 Blazer. Wow those were some great times! Over 30 years Texas Truckworks has change alone the way!
